From the East Chapel and Bluff Blocks of Red Willow Vineyard, this Sangiovese is one of the oldest in Washington. Clones were thinned to carry massive clusters, producing ripe and under ripe berries, rare balance and complexity. Harvested early in October, carefully sorted whole berry clusters were cold soaked. Dark red must was inoculated, fermented, delicately pressed into a combination of oak barrels, and aged sur lie for 22 months. The 9-barrel blend was carefully selected by the winemaking team as the optimal expression of both vintage and varietal.
PROFILE: Crimson edge drips into vibrant jam and lipstick, turning mahogany as wine ages. Red berry, licorice rope, and alluring barrel spice aromas open to vanilla and rose petals. The lively palate rolls to a lush, sweet mouthfeel, followed by tart red fruits and orange peel. Soft tannins with a streak of acid.
Pair with parmigiano, cured sausages, gamey meats, crostini with mushroom duxelle.
